3rd Asian School Chess 2007 at Kandy, Sri Lanka
First Day :

INDIA is Hot Favorite.

Indians are being kept in high Esteem at 3rd Asian School Chess 2007 , here at Kandy, Sri Lanka. Indians are Top Seed in almost Each Category where they are participating. 11 players from India are participating. Indians have been given rousing reception here.

World under  8 Girls Champ Ivana Furtado is top seed in Girls U9. M Satvik & Nubairshah are 1st & 2nd seed in U9 Boys. Nishtha & N Manjunath  are top seed in Girls U11 & boys U13 respectively. Atishay Ajmera is 2nd seed in Boys U15 where as WFM Pon N Krithika & Astha  are 1st & 2nd seed in Under 15 girls.

The opening ceremony was a colorful and well attended . All the Speakers , Chief Guest His Excellency the Governor of Central Province & Office Bearers of Sri Lankan Chess Federation admired   the progress of Chess in India & acknowledged India as Super Power in  Chess.

All the Indians sailed easily through First round except one player who lost against other Indians Player.

Second Day :

INDIA is Leading in All Categories..

After completion of 3rd  round on 2nd day, Indians are leading in all categories, where they are participating, in  3rd Asian School Chess 2007 , here at Kandy.  All the 11 Indian players are in the race for medals . Till 3rd   round  none of Indian Player has lost against any foreign Player.

Indian Girls are exhibiting exceptional skill of Chess. Bansi Pratima, Ivana Furtado, Nishtha & Pon N Krithika are having full 3 points & are sole leaders in theirs respective  categories. All of these won theirs both the games easily on day two.

Indian Boys are also performing  exceptionally well. In under 9 category.  M Satvik, Nubairshah & Jerome Ebenezer are in joint lead with one Sri Lankan Player at 2.5 points each. M Satvik & Nubairshah drew a well fought  game on Top Board. In under 11 category  Cyrus Pereira of India is having full 3 points & in joint lead with one Iranian & one Sri Lankan Player. N Manjunath is also having full 3 points & sole leader in Under 13 category. Atishay Ajmera is sole leader with 2.5 points in under 15 category.

Third Day :

INDIA is poised for big haul

After completion of 4th & 5th   rounds on 3rd  day, Indians further consolidated theirs leads in all categories in  3rd Asian School Chess 2007 , at Kandy and poised for Big hauls of Medals.

Indian Girls are leading in all categories. Bansi Pratima, Nishtha & Pon N Krithika have won all of theirs games & having full 4 points & are sole leaders in theirs respective  categories with at least one point lead. Ivana Furtado was held to a draw  by  Sri Lankan  Island Champion. She is joint leader in Girls Under 9 with 3.5 points in four rounds.

Indian Boys are no far behind. In under 9 category,  Nubairshah  won both the games & sole leader with 4.5 points in 5 rounds.  M Satvik is following him with 4 points. In morning round he drew against another Indian  Jerome Ebenezer[3]. In under 11 category  Cyrus Pereira of India is sole leader  with 4.5  points in 5 rounds . He drew his 2nd  round of day. Despite drawing his morning game  N Manjunath is also sole leader in Under 13 category  with 4.5 points in 5 rounds. Atishay Ajmera continued his winning streak & sole leader with 3.5 points in 4 rounds under 15 category.

Final Day :

India piled up Medals

Four Gold Medals were confirmed before entering in the Final Round. They were Atishay Ajmera in Boys Under 15, Pon N Krithika in Girls Under 15.Bansi Pratima in under 7 Girls. InUnder 9 Boys all the medals were confirmed for Indians & last round was to decide who will get which Medal.

In the last round  M Manjunath won  to get Silver  Medal in Boys U13. Despite winning last round   Nishtha Gupta could get only Bronze Medal in Under 11 girls.  Cyrus Pereira drew against Iranian player & Both got Joint Gold Medals. In under 9 Boys category Nubairshah & M satvik registered victories & secured Gold & Silver respectively. Ivana Furtado won & confirmed Joint Gold Medal

Out of 11 player Indian Contigent 10 players got the Individual Medals.   In all India  got 6 Gold   2 Silver& 2 Bronze Individual Medals &   2 Gold  in Team events. India got Medals in all the 8  categories where they played whether it was individual or Team. Indian Team was only in Under 15 Girls & Under 9 Boys.
